About Us

The Silk Street Hot Seven were formed back in 2003 as a new generation of early jazz band. The ensemble contains today’s up-and-coming players all of whom continue to revitalise the scene with their flair, excitement and enthusiasm. Their ability to acknowledge and reflect on the past but to create a contemporary sound is why it is one of the pre-eminent bands on the scene today. All members are full time London professionals and are some of the leading musicians in their field.

The Silk Street Hot Seven are building on a fast growing prestigious reputation for being one of the most reliable bands in the UK. Establishing a high level of consumer confidence, the band’s credibility in today’s market is clearly evident from its extensive list of widely recognised and extremely satisfied clientele. The band has also played at many prestigious venues across the UK.

Instrumentation

The Silk Street bands are available from a small trio up to the full 7-piece band. It is very important to us that we both decide on the right ensemble for your event.

3 Piece Clarinet, Banjo, Sousaphone
4 Piece (option 1 & 2) Trumpet, Clarinet, Banjo, Sousaphone (Drums)
5 Piece Cornet, Clarinet, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums
6 Piece Cornet, Clarinet, Trombone, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums
7 Piece Cornet, Clarinet, Sax, Trombone, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums

Christmas Band Tenor Saxophone, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums NEW for 2008

The above line ups are flexible and can be mixed and matched to suit your requirements. Some are more suited to the champagne wedding reception or small party, whilst others are more suitable for dancing or outside events. Here are some examples that might help you decide:

Vocalist

The Silk Street Six and Seven piece bands now include the sound of our fantastic male singer. The perfect ensembles for those wanting the addition of the sophisticated sound of the jazz singer to the group.

Music for Dancing

The use of the drums is quite important here. Silk Street would advise a minimum 4 piece line up consisting of 1 Horn, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums. More front line instruments can be added to build up the sound.

Strolling Ensemble

All instrumental players can stroll apart from the drummer. A minimum 3-piece line up of 1 horn, Banjo, Sousaphone is advisable. More front line instruments can be added to create a larger more prominent sound.

Background Music

The 3-piece or 4-piece are ideal combinations for background music. We would suggest swapping the drums in the 4-piece for another horn. This choice is well suited to the wedding reception.

Foreground Music

The 7-piece or 6-piece band has a large sound so depending on the size of the performance space, this is the perfect ensemble for creating a timeless impression.

Budget

The 5-piece ensemble maintains the authentic sound of the Hot Seven as it uses 2 front line instruments. This is a suitable band for those on a smaller budget but wanting to still have a reasonable sized band.

Attire

The band are available to perform in their traditional waistcoats and boaters. However, we understand that different attires are more suited to different events so, if you are looking at creating a different impression, the band have several other outfits available which include:

  • Striped Blazers
  • Dinner Jackets (Black or White Tie)
  • Modern Lounge Suits
  • Chic All Black
  • Casual

Perhaps you wanted us to wear your corporate colours or fit in with the design of your party theme? If you had something else in mind, please let us know at the time of enquiry and we’ll do our best to meet your needs.
